Ionamin

Ionamin (phentermine hydrochloride) is set in a resin matrix compound and is manufactured by Medeva Pharmaceuticals. The resin compound in Ionamin allows the phentermine to release slowly into the system, but is not time-released per se. Some patients like Ionamin because they have fewer side effects. Ionamin is the only phentermine resin on the market; there are no generics. Ionamin comes in 30 mg and 15 mg capsules. The 15 mg capsule of Ionamin is gray and yellow, the 30 mg capsule is all yellow. Each capsule is labeled "Ionamin".

Ionamin is used as an appetite suppressant. Ionamin is used in conjunction with an overall diet plan to reduce weight.

Directions

Take Ionamin on an empty stomach, once daily, 30-60 minutes before breakfast. The tablet may be broken or cut in half. Do not crush or chew tablet. Because Ionamin may cause sleeplessness, avoid taking a dose late in the day. Take Ionamin as prescribed. Do not take Ionamin more often or longer than directed.

Side Effects

Dry mouth, sleeplessness, irritability, stomach upset or constipation may occur the first few days as your body adjusts to Ionamin. If these effects persist or become bothersome, inform your doctor.

Precautions

Tell your doctor your complete medical history especially if you have high blood pressure, an over-active thyroid, glaucoma, diabetes or emotional problems. Consult with your doctor if you think you are pregnant or before breast-feeding. Alcohol can increase unwanted side effects of dizziness. Limit alcohol use. Ionamin is not recommended for use in children. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for further information.

Drug Interactions

Inform your doctor about all the medicines you use, (prescription and nonprescription) especially if you take high blood pressure medicine or MAO inhibitors (e.g., furazolidone, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine) or any other weight loss medicine. Avoid "stimulant" drugs that may increase your heart rate or blood pressure such as decongestants or caffeine. Decongestants are commonly found in over-the-counter cough and cold medicine.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose of Ionamin, do not double the next dose. Instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.

Storage

Store Ionamin at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture. Keep Ionamin and all medications out of the reach of children.

Notes

Appetite suppressants are not a substitute for proper diet. For maximum effects, Ionamin must be used in conjunction with a diet and exercise program. Do not share Ionamin with others.
